Thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in Family Carers Ireland.
Did you know that 1 in 10 people (355,000) care for a loved one or family friend and that this figure is set to rise to 1 in 5 by 2030? Becoming a family carer can happen suddenly when someone you love is taken ill or has an accident or your child is born with a disability. For others, it’s more gradual. It may initially involve helping an elderly parent with shopping, preparing meals and managing medicines but this role can intensify over time.
Family Carers Ireland’s primary focus is on supporting the carer as an individual in their own right as well as a key contributor to the sustainability of our healthcare system. We do this through the provision of vital supports and services.
Shine a Light is our national day to raise awareness of family carers in Ireland while raising much-needed funds to support them through the sale of our heart-shaped pins for €2. As June 21st is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, it is an appropriate day to shine a light on the contribution of family carers and to raise awareness of the supports offered by Family Carers Ireland.
If you would like to buy a pin, please click here.
