Family Carers Ireland, in conjunction with Nutricia, a medical nutrition company, is conducting research into the management of wounds. The growing prevalence and incidence of non-healing wounds is a major source of illness for those directly affected and cause for concern for carers and the healthcare system.
Those in a caring role can often play a significant role when it comes to the management of wounds for the recipient of that care. The purpose of this research is to better understand that role in wound management, uncovering all aspects of that experience, be it positive or challenging, with the ambition to better support carers involved in wound management moving forward.
We are interested in speaking to people who have managed wounds for others, including General Wound Care, Pressure Ulcers and Leg Ulcers. You may be currently caring for someone with these wounds or have done so in the past, for example managing wound dressing, bedding and other aspects. You may also have particular insights into the role of nutrition in the development of wounds and in supporting wound healing.
The research would involve you taking part in a focus group discussion, alongside 6-8 other people who are also family carers, facilitated by a professional researcher from Ipsos MRBI. The focus group itself should last approximately 90 minutes and will be relaxed in nature.
It will be held at the Ashling Hotel, Dublin 8, on Tuesday 25th June 2019 and will run from approximately 10:30 to 12:30. All those attending will receive an honorarium of €50 as a token of our appreciation.
This focus group would be audio recorded to enable Ipsos MRBI to analyse the findings and a report summarising the findings of the focus groups will be produced. Observers from Family Carers Ireland and Nutricia will also be present.
As you know, carers are at the heart of everything we do. The real-life experiences of carers are very useful as they provide a genuine account of what it is like to care for the wounds of others and how this impacts peoples’ lives and the lives of close family or friends.
