2016 will see the 10th annual Carers of the Year Awards. These awards were established to recognise and celebrate the selfless work of family carers and young carers across Ireland, and their enormous contribution to Irish society.
To mark the 10th anniversary, four young carers will be chosen regionally as Ireland’s Young Carers of the Year 2016. Formerly one young carer nationally was presented.
Ireland’s young carers are a steadily growing group. Latest research finds that 11.4% of 10,368 children aged 10 – 17 surveyed identified themselves as family carers.
With awareness of young family carers increasing, the awards saw a 400 per cent increase in the number of nominations for young carers last year.
If you know a family carer or young carer (aged 18 and under), whether a relative, neighbor or friend, who you think should be recognised and rewarded for the extraordinary levels of care they provide to a loved one, you may nominate them filling in the online nomination form (nominations are now closed).
Closing date for entries is Friday, September 30th and the 10th Carers of the Year Awards will be presented Dublin in November.
