The upcoming General Election on November 29th provides an important opportunity for you to shine a light on the challenges family carers face. By working collectively, Family Carers Ireland wants to amplify the voice of family carers throughout the election campaign, making sure your issues are foremost in the minds of all election candidates and political parties. By campaigning with us, you can help make sure election candidates and political parties understand the importance of supporting carers like you and why carers should be a priority for the next Irish Government.
Ahead of the General Election, Family Carers Ireland is urging each candidate and political party to demonstrate their commitment to Ireland’s 500,000+ family carers by endorsing our 10 Pledges for Family Carers manifesto. If delivered over the term of the next government, these pledges will help achieve a new social contract for care by creating a society where family carers are properly recognised, fairly compensated for the care they provide, not excluded from support due to their means and have timely access to the services they need when, where and how they are needed.
We have produced a Canvas Card which highlights our 10 Pledges for Family Carers and we are encouraging everyone to download a copy of this card to their phone (or print it off) so that you can highlight these key issues with candidates who are canvassing in your area.
As political parties publish their manifestos, Family Carers Ireland will be updating the below document to outline the specific commitments for family carers made by each party.
Family Carers Ireland hosted a General Election 2024 Hustings: Political Party Priorities for Family Carers on Tuesday, November 5th in the Ashling Hotel, Dublin.
This in-person event was live-streamed to those unable to attend and featured a presentation on the 10 pledges contained in our manifesto, a panel of political representatives who spoke briefly about their party's priorities for family carers and an open floor Q&A session where family carers highlighted the issues that are important to them with politicians.
