On February 8th the Irish people will be asked to vote in a General Election. The men and women elected to the 33rd Dáil are key to building an Ireland where family carers are respected and recognised for the huge contribution they make to families, society and the economy. Where carers feel supported not only to cope with the challenges of looking after someone, but to have a life of their own alongside their caring role. A life which includes caring but is not overwhelmed by it.
In our Manifesto for Family Carers, we are asking each political party and election candidate to indicate whether, if they form part of the next Government, they will commit to ten pledges over the lifetime of that Government.

We are asking family carers to download a copy of our Carers Canvass Card to their mobile phone or print it off to have to hand when election candidates call to your door seeking your vote. Please click on the image below to download.
Family Carers Ireland is urging every family carer and friends of carers to vote for candidates that commit to supporting family carers through tangible action and supports. Caring must be a shared responsibility between the family carer, the wider family, the community and most importantly the state.
No one should have to care alone.
