What is the Family Carers Ireland Online Support Forum?
The Family Carers Ireland Online Support Forum is an online community for people who are currently or who previously cared for a family member or friend at home. The Forum allows you to connect with others in a similar position, share your wisdom and worries, signpost to resources and information and support each other through the journey of care and beyond.
The Online Support Forum is open to people aged 18+ and is moderated by Family Carers Ireland staff.
As with all online communities, we have guidelines that we ask all carers who are part of the Forum to follow. Every time you use the Forum, you are agreeing to follow the Forum Guidelines, the Terms and Conditions of membership and our Privacy and Cookies policies.
We want this to be a safe space, where people feel welcomed and supported. We request that everyone who is part of the Forum will be:
- Kind to each other
So what does that mean?
We want this to be a welcoming, safe space. Many people who will use this Forum are going through difficult times and when you post consider how the person reading it will feel to what you have posted.
We reserve the right to remove posts and/or members that we as moderators consider to be insensitive to others.
Family Carers Ireland provides information, support and advice to Family Carers and as moderators, we will post information, give support and advice from time to time. But, the real purpose of this Forum is for our members to support each other. People will always have different views and opinions and we ask you to respect that. Please don’t judge others and don’t make assumptions.
When we are communicating online there are some things you can do to make sure that the tone of your posts are appropriate. Some suggestions…
- If you are looking for information or advice, consider saying please and thank you.
- Please avoid overuse of capital letters and online WHEN PEOPLE TYPE LIKE THIS they are considered to be shouting.
If you meet someone on the Forum that you are really worried about and if you think they, or the person they care for could be at risk, please contact our moderators by email at email@example.com or send a direct message to admin. You might also encourage the person you are worried about to call the Family Carers Ireland Careline 1800 24 07 24.
On the Forum we have different groups for different types of Carers, please join the one that suits you best.
If you are replying to a question or topic, try to stick to that question or topic so that people can find information easily.
Please do not name the person you are caring for. Do not name healthcare professionals and do not post photographs. Don’t post your phone number, email address or home address on the forum.
Everything you post on the forum can be seen by those who have registered or joined one of the sub groups.
If you send someone a private message, the contents of that message should remain private. If you feel that you have received an inappropriate message, please report it to admin or email firstname.lastname@example.org
If you have an issue with another member’s post please report it to admin or email email@example.com
Feel free to include website URLs if they give useful information – but please make sure the content is appropriate or it will be removed.
Please don’t sell anything on the Forum – those posts will be removed.
How do we moderate our online community?
The Forum is moderated by a team of staff from Family Carers Ireland. We believe that the most valuable support you will get won’t be from our staff – but from each other. We’ll monitor the forum and posts in so far as we can between 9am and 5.30pm. We will try to respond to you as quickly as we can. During the night and at weekends, the Forum will not be moderated. Over time we will recruit volunteers from Forum Superusers who will naturally emerge.
Our moderators will remove posts that break the rules outlined above, that damage the reputation of Family Carers Ireland or are not in keeping with the purpose of the Forum. For repeated breaches of the rules, users can be removed.
If moderators are concerned about the safety of a Forum user or the person they care for, our Safeguarding Procedure will be instigated.
If you find a post to be offensive, inappropriate or in breach of the rules, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or send us a direct message.
If your post has been deleted or you have been removed as a user, email us at email@example.com or send us a direct message and we will follow the Family Carers Ireland Complaints procedure.
