Family Carers Ireland in collaboration with researchers from University College Dublin and University of Ulster are currently undertaking a research study that aims to explore carers’ experiences of caring for a person with intellectual disability. The project is being funded by the National Disability Authority (NDA). The Department of Social Protection has agreed to facilitate this survey by sending a questionnaire to a sample of carers on behalf of the research team.
If you receive a questionnaire over the coming weeks, it is because you have been randomly selected and because you receive a carer’s allowance for the full-time care you provide to a person with intellectual disability.
The questionnaire asks you questions about your caregiving experience, your health, caregiving activities and about the social and professional support available to you. This information will help to inform the design and delivery of quality services for people with intellectual disability and their families.
Although your participation in the survey is entirely your decision, we would encourage you to support this study by completing and returning the questionnaire. The survey is completely anonymous and confidential.
Please take a few minutes to share your experiences of caring for a person with intellectual disability. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Dr. Attracta Lafferty, Project Lead on (01) 716 6468 or email familycarersID@ucd.ie
